World Pipe Band Championships

On Saturday 9 August, the College’s A Band and B Band competed at the European Pipe Band Championships in Perth, Scotland. A Band secured an impressive 8th place finish, while B Band achieved a prize-winning 5th place.

The highlight of the tour came on Friday 15 August in Glasgow at the World Pipe Band Championships. Against strong international competition, A Band placed 6th in the Novice Juvenile A category, while B Band proudly claimed 3rd place in the Novice Juvenile B category, their first ever placement at a World Championship event.

Performing for the King

The Scots College Pipes and Drums also had the extraordinary honour of performing before His Majesty The King Charles III in Ballater, Scotland, on Tuesday 12 August. The performance was part of the ceremonial presentation of Clan Chief, Philip Farquharson, 17th of Invercauld and the presentation of new colours to the Clan Chief.

For the students, it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. In preparation for the tour, the boys held a tune composition competition, which was won by Jaxon Styles (Year 11). I had the honour of presenting the winning tune to The King. Several students also had the privilege of being personally introduced to King Charles III, alongside Bandmaster, Mr Paul Hughes.

Well done to all the boys and staff for your efforts and hard work. The College is very proud of you.
