Discover Our Stand-out Programs

The Scots College is reinventing education to build resilience in Scots boys who are ready for a future that is yet to be imagined. Scots provides unique programs that inspire boys to strive for their full potential and be ready for the world of tomorrow. Below are some stand-out programs that are uniquely Scots.

Bannockburn – Agricultural Science

Active Learning with Agriculture

The College’s active learning site, Bannockburn, provides unique educational experiences for Scots boys through overnight or long-stay excursions. Activity stations are set up across the site for boys to engage in experiential learning activities while taking advantage of the 300 hectares of agricultural land and resident Angus cattle.

Activities include water and soil testing, quadrant mapping, species counts, profit/loss analysis and studying food biosecurity. These activities enrich learning outcomes for core subjects, including Agriculture, English, Manual Arts, Mathematics, Science and Sport. With a focus on sustainability, these experiences also ensure Scots boys advance into the future with a sound ethical and scientific understanding of how they impact the world.

Glengarry – Experiential Learning

Since 1988, The Scots College Glengarry program, held over two terms, has provided many defining moments for generations of boys during their adolescent years. They develop greater awareness of their inner resources and learn through participation; emerging stronger, wiser, more confident and resilient than before.

Glengarry is a unique outdoor education, six-month residential experience for all Year 9 students, which is conducive to boys’ rapid social, physical and mental development. Developed around the concept of experiential learning, Glengarry will provide your son with all the benefits of outdoor education.

The Glengarry program is the only, one-of-its-kind outdoor education program in Australia. In a new environment absent of electronic devices (mobiles, TV and computer games), boys are awakened to more of themselves and their capabilities, away from their everyday environments. The Glengarry experience helps boys focus during their adolescent years and is renowned as a rite of passage into manhood, culminating in ‘The Long Journey Home’.

Entrepreneurship

Applied Entrepreneurship Program

The Applied Entrepreneurship Program is an innovative framework for Years 11 and 12 students, preparing Scots boys for their higher learning and vocational pathways.

Its future-focused approach embraces transformative educational strategy in the pursuit of partnership and collaboration with communities through practice, knowledge, and formation.

The purpose of the Applied Entrepreneurship Program is to continually develop a relevant curriculum to address student purpose, engagement, and graduate outcomes. This is achieved through the co-creation and design of enterprise development programs with industry and academic partners.

The program focuses on the development of Five Key Charges – Strategy, Leadership, Analysis, Influence, and Problem Solving. These functions are represented in the formation of academic and enterprise development programs.

The Applied Entrepreneurship Program has an innovative structure that recognises the need for variance in the learning experience and the democracy of how it is delivered. A rejuvenated timetable offers a blended mode with three learning studios that enable personalisation, independence, and collaboration.

Complementing these learning studios, an embedded experiential learning opportunity is at the heart of the program, where students engage in an industry placement experience. Essential to the student experience is a performance coaching and mentoring program.

Service Learning and School Trips

Opportunities of a Lifetime – Here and Overseas

The Scots College is determined in its goal to create fine young men. The ultimate aim of our education is to help students acquire knowledge of the truth – of God, society and the world – so that they are confidently capable of serving in their families and the wider world to the glory of God and for the welfare of others.

The best way to see these values in action is to present opportunities for them to become a reality. Our boys travel, serve the community, work with others, assist with construction, compete in events, experience technology, push boundaries, stretch themselves – in ways even they cannot imagine, until they do.

In recent years, Scots boys flew to Switzerland to compete in the Basel Tattoo, rowed at the Henley Royal Regatta in England, played rugby against New Zealand, sailed in Tasmania and Dubai, flew to the USA for NASA Space Camp and travelled to the Solomon Islands and Fiji to give practical help to students in developing nations. Musical expression and entrepreneurial vision took them to Scotland and China, respectively.

In Sydney, they gave back to their local community by helping at an animal shelter, providing food and clothing for the homeless, and coordinating Christmas gifts from Australia to children in need across the world.

We present our students with an extensive range of opportunities for individualised and team-based development. We look forward to this being so, year after year, generation after generation.
