Exclusive Active Learning Site
Cradled between national parks, the Shoalhaven River delta and Culburra Beach, is the beautiful Bannockburn campus. Located on approximately 300 hectares in size, the property is known as the College’s Active Learning site.
Experiential learning is the focus at Bannockburn, with boys tackling activities that enrich learning outcomes from mathematics to manual arts, science, sport, English and environmental studies.
A Focus on Sustainability
Utlising activity stations, Bannockburn accommodates students on overnight or long stay excursions, while allowing them to work from various locations on the campus to engage in learning activities.
All subjects are approached using a sustainable focus, ensuring Scots boys advance to their future with a sound ethical and scientific understanding of how they impact the world. It will also help them think critically and deeply about how their choices can better help the planet.
Active Learning at Bannockburn
From Kindergarten to Year 12, Bannockburn is available for all year groups and subjects for excursions or camping. Some examples of current studies taking place at the campus include:
- Science – Water and soil testing, quadrant mapping and species counts
- Cadets and sports training (I.e. Cross Country) – Trekking across 4,000 hectares of adjacent private property to reach the beach 4km away
- Year 9 Mathematics – Calculation of profit/loss of cattle, using rate and ratio calculations to vaccinate and backline horses
- Year 9 Geography – study of food biosecurity by studying pests, global warming, urban encroachment, and biofuel production. This is done by observing local pests such as cockatoos, construction of golf courses, and the effects of rising sea levels and how they all impact on our ability to produce food.
- Callala Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant for Year 11 Science
