When Mr Warren Halloran AM (’44) generously bequeathed his Culburra property to The Scots College in 2016, he dreamed of a place where boys could venture beyond Sydney, immersed in the land, its learning and its lessons. On the north side of the property, where the paddocks meet the Crookwell River, he saw the perfect location to bring this vision to life and called it Reganville.
What began as a modest concept for a single dormitory has since evolved into a bold dual-dormitory conference centre, designed to serve both Scots boys and the wider Culburra Beach community. Inspired by Australia’s rural vernacular sheds, the dormitories are intentionally distinct in character from Glengarry, featuring clerestory windows, wrap-around verandahs and expansive upper-floor windows that frame stunning views of the Crookwell River and surrounding countryside.
Impact
The Reganville development will include two beautifully designed dormitories, a commercial kitchen, a 120-seat dining room, an outdoor pavilion, a student library and staff offices, creating a dynamic and versatile learning environment.
Each dormitory will accommodate 40 students on the upper level, housed in eight five-bed bedrooms with ensuites and a generous shared common room. Shared lounges and staff accommodation will provide a supportive and engaging environment for all.
The campus is more than just accommodation; it is a space where students will thrive academically, socially and personally. With carefully considered design elements – including natural light, ventilation and communal spaces, Reganville will foster independence, collaboration and wellbeing. Its integration into the regional landscape will also allow Scots to engage with the nearby communities, hosting conferences and events that extend its impact beyond the College.

Mr Alan Elder was born in Scotland and migrated to Australia with his parents at a young age. He attended The Scots College for all his schooling, graduating in 1944. He played 1st XI Cricket and was a member of the College Cadet Unit. After leaving school Mr Elder studied accountancy and retained a life-long love of the College, especially the Pipes and Drums. Mr Elder never married, however the significant bequest he left will allow his Scots family to remember him through the Lang Walker Business Centre.
