Current Opportunities

Gap Staff Opportunities

The Scots College offers two gap placements for each semester:

  • Two positions in Term 1 from the end of January until the end of Term 2 in June
  • Two positions in Term 3 from July until the end of Term 4 in December

We do not offer whole year placements.

We look for school graduates that have initiative, drive, maturity, an outgoing nature and are hard workers as well as reliable and self-motivated. The role involves coaching sport for half the time, and in the remaining time, helping out in the Senior and Preparatory Schools. Some of this time will be in class, assisting in areas of particular interest to the individual in the role. This could involve Languages, Drama, Design and Technology or any other subject.

We aim for the role to be varied, interesting, rewarding and productive. Much time is spent with the students at the College, so being a confident ‘people person’ is a must.

If you are interested in applying for a position, please send your Curriculum Vitae and a cover letter to Mr Kevin Brennan, Assistant Head of Senior School, [email protected]. The letter should be 250 words and outline why you believe you have the qualities needed for the role.

Undertaking Initial Teacher Training and Practicum at Scots

The Scots College is committed to developing the next generation of teachers and provides practicum placements for outstanding student teachers from a range of universities and teaching disciplines.

Scots seeks to employ teaching staff that exemplify the highest standards of teaching. The College provides high quality education to its students and seeks to extend this provision when selecting practicum students. At Scots we provide a welcoming environment where practicum students can grow and foster their skill set. We seek practicum students that are compatible with Scots work ethic, professional standards and ability to uphold the College’s values, faith and educational philosophy. If this sounds like an opportunity you are interested in, we encourage you to follow the application process:

Step one

Applicants are to submit a brief two to three page resume and cover letter that provides previous work/practicum experience, referees, related skills, interests and hobbies and reasons for wishing to undertake their practicum at Scots.

Please include relevant dates and subject areas. Applications should be directed by email to the Coordinator of Teacher Accreditation and Practicum Teachers, Mr Jason Corbett-Jones at [email protected].

Step two

Your application will be discussed with the relevant Head of Department. If unsuccessful, you will be emailed a response. If successful, you will be contacted for a 15 minute interview with the Head of Department and Coordinator of Teacher Accreditation and Practicum Teachers. This will take place on Zoom or in person at a mutually convenient time.

Step three

Applicants will be emailed as to the final outcome. Successful applicants will be encouraged to contact their university practicum coordinators and liaise with the relevant Head of Department.

Prospective applicants should familiarise themselves with the school website:

Students undertaking their practicum experience may be invited to participate in sport and co-curricular activities. Successful placements may also lead to being included in our prospective teachers’ group and being invited to apply for teaching roles that may become available.

William Elder

Mr Alan Elder was born in Scotland and migrated to Australia with his parents at a young age. He attended The Scots College for all his schooling, graduating in 1944. He played 1st XI Cricket and was a member of the College Cadet Unit. After leaving school Mr Elder studied accountancy and retained a life-long love of the College, especially the Pipes and Drums. Mr Elder never married, however the significant bequest he left will allow his Scots family to remember him through the Lang Walker Business Centre.
