In an inspiring display of talent, dedication and school spirit, a team of outstanding swimmers from The Scots College made waves at the recent NSWPSSA State Swimming Championships, held in April during the final week of Term 1. Competing against the best young swimmers from across New South Wales, the Scots boys delivered remarkable performances that left a lasting impression.

The 4x50m 11 Years Boys Relay team – comprised of Henry Greenfield Parker (Year 5), Corbin Allen (Year 6), Presley Whalan (Year 5), and Edmund Jewell (Year 5) – showcased exceptional teamwork and tenacity. In a competitive final, the boys swam with heart and determination, ultimately finishing just shy of the podium in fourth place. Their cohesive effort and strong individual contributions were a testament to their rigorous preparation and camaraderie.

Presley Whalan (Year 5) emerged as one of the championships’ standout performers, setting multiple personal bests across his events. His relentless drive and commitment to improvement culminated in an extraordinary result – becoming the fastest 50m backstroker and the second-fastest 50m breaststroker in New South Wales for his age group. Presley’s achievements highlight his rising star status in the swimming community.

Edmund Jewell (Year 5) also delivered a phenomenal performance, breaking the coveted 30 second barrier in the 50m freestyle. His new personal best not only marked a significant milestone but also earned him the title of the second-fastest 11 year old freestyler in the state.

Thanks to their exceptional performances, both Year 5 students, Presley and Edmund have been selected to represent the NSW team at the upcoming School Sport Australia Swimming Championships, set to take place in Melbourne this October. Their selection is a prestigious honour and reflects their unwavering dedication, discipline and passion for the sport.

Congratulations to all the boys who competed at the state championships. Their sportsmanship, resilience and outstanding results have brought pride to the entire College community. As we look ahead to the national championships, the Scots community stands united in support of Presley and Edmund as they prepare to take on the nation’s best.
