From its inception in 1893, The Scots College has been home to the sons of farmers and regional families from across Australia. With around 240 Boarders residing in bespoke Heritage Listed Boarding Houses, the College offers a nurturing environment where students can learn through experiential teaching and adventure. Building upon its legacy in rural Australia, the College aims to ensure that all students have the opportunity to engage in learning experiences that reflect regional Australia, including exploring sustainable, and future focused, food and fibre production in a rapidly changing Agriculture industry, as well as equestrian training and competitions.

While The Scots College Middle School and Senior School campuses are based in the beautiful Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, just a short walk to harbour beaches, the teaching of Agriculture is leading the way for Day and Boarding students alike. Agriculture is offered as a subject for students in Years 8 to 12, as well as a student agricultural society, where Australia’s finest leaders in their field are invited as guest speakers to address students over dinner.

Key experiences within the Agriculture program include visiting the Mulloon Institute, where students investigate the rehydration and restoration of land and water catchments, field trips to a range of farms across New South Wales and regular visits to Bannockburn, the College’s Active Learning site. Here students connect theory with hands-on skills in beef and vegetable production. All subjects are approached using a sustainable focus, ensuring Scots boys advance to their future with a sound ethical and scientific understanding of how they impact the world.

Preparing students for the future of work is supported through the Agricultural Careers Expo, held by The Scots College annually. Hosting over 35 agricultural companies and tertiary institutions from around Australia, students have the chance to learn about key industry opportunities and gain valuable insights into education and employment pathways.

The College continues to grow its equestrian team as students train and compete in the North West Equestrian Expo, an annual competition of over 500 competitors from around Australia. Demonstrating skills in horsemanship, students build confidence, learn to work as a team and enjoy the comradery that collaborative events including team penning and polocrosse instils.

The Scots College programs encourage metropolitan and regional students alike to embrace their passions and try new experiences accessed from our campuses across New South Wales.
