The Lion & Lang Syne is a biannual community magazine published by The Scots College that showcases the latest student achievements in academia, sports, creativity, and community engagement. The latest edition is now available for you to download for free.

The Lion & Lang Syne WInter 2017 covers a range of student achievements, and also contains a section dedicated to our wonderful alumni group, the Old Boys’ Union.

The magazine is a fantastic opportunity for readers to see Scots students living the Scots Advantage each day – making the most of each opportunity presented to them and realising their potential.

William Elder


Mr Alan Elder was born in Scotland and migrated to Australia with his parents at a young age. He attended The Scots College for all his schooling, graduating in 1944. He played 1st XI Cricket and was a member of the College Cadet Unit. After leaving school Mr Elder studied accountancy and retained a life-long love of the College, especially the Pipes and Drums. Mr Elder never married, however the significant bequest he left will allow his Scots family to remember him through the Lang Walker Business Centre.
