Adventure is a key pillar in The Scots College educational framework; we know that boys learn best when they experience the world for themselves, problem-solve and learn to lead others. Adventure is embedded in the College’s curriculum, bespoke program offerings such as Glengarry and, naturally, within our Boarding experiences.
Glengarry
Glengarry is located two hours south-west of Sydney in the small country town of Kangaroo Valley. Glengarry provides an innovative rural setting for Year 9 boys to experience a context of safe adventure which fosters both a healthy self-reliance and self-denial to serve others. The focus is on the whole boy and each boy’s personal formation, and hence Glengarry is more than a school, it is an experiential learning opportunity. Boys are intentionally removed from the main campus and relocated to a remote and rural setting with an experiential learning program, for a sustained period of six months.
Adventure Academy
Scots also offer a 10-week residential program named the Adventure Academy. This program follows on from Glengarry and is designed around key peak experiences that aim to challenge and extend students:
- Cross-country skiing on the western rim of Perisher Range in New South Wales.
- 100 kilometer canoe journey between our Glengarry campus and Bannockburn site.
- Agricultural immersion included a four day service trip to a sheep station in the Yass Valley where students learn to crutch and drench sheep.
- Six day voyage sailing a tall sheet between Jervis Bay and Sydney Harbour.
