A talented pair of Year 8 students recently put their musical prowess on display for a weekend of giving as they provided entertainment for the Plumer Road Food and Blanket Drive, and for the Bondi Buskers Festival ‘Music on the Streets.’ Jordan Dulieu and Nick Ward, students at The Scots College, donated their time and expertise as a singer and guitarist respectively, in an effort to raise much needed supplies for OzHarvest and Missionbeat, and to raise funds for Wairoa School, a special needs school in Bondi.
Following outstanding performances at last year’s Plumer Road Twilight Festival, Jordan and Nick were invited to return this year to perform at the charity event. The boys donated the money they raised from busking, with enough funds to provide 300 meals for the homeless.
“Anyone who has ever given money to charity knows how great it feels,” said Nick as he reflected upon his decision to donate. “I love playing music with Jordan and it’s a huge privilege to use our music to do charity work.”
The duo have performed together for quite some time, even recording three covers with Sony Music. Jordan is an accomplished vocalist, having performed in quite a few College shows. Nick plays acoustically in the duo, electric guitar in a band at The Scots College, and double bass in the String Ensemble. He also plays the piano and keyboard. The pair were awarded the Most Promising Guitarist and Most Promising Vocalist in last year’s St Joseph’s College’s annual Battle of the Bands.
The Plumer Road Food and Blanket Drive is an initiative organised by Plumer Road Shopping Village. The idea behind the drive was to raise donations of non-perishable food for OzHarvest, and blankets for Missionbeat. OzHarvest is an organisation that delivers food to 600 charities nationwide through collaboration with food providers such as supermarkets, hotels, stadiums, and restaurants by collecting unwanted food surplus. Missionbeat is a charity group that has been serving Sydney’s homeless for 35 years. The Plumer Road Food and Blanket Drive managed to raise 156 blankets for Missionbeat, and 12 garbage bins worth of food for OzHarvest.
